Del Taco began its journey in 1964 in Yermo, California when Ed Hackbarth and David Jameson opened the first restaurant with a vision of blending Mexican and American cuisines. The menu started with just tacos, tostadas, fries, and cheeseburgers, each sold for only 19 cents. The combination of fresh ingredients, affordable prices, and delicious flavors quickly gained popularity.
By the 1970s, Del Taco expanded across California, introducing drive-thru service and expanding its menu to include burritos, quesadillas, and breakfast items. The chain became a pioneer in combining quality, speed, and variety.
